Metrolinx Puts a Halt on Scarborough LRT Funding

Metrolinx, the provincial agency which manages funding and operation of Transit in the Greater Toronto Area has put a halt to funding the conversion of the Scarborough Rapid Transit Line into a modern LRT as Toronto City Council recently voted to bring back the idea of  a $3 billion dollar, 3 Stop Subway in Scarborough which will carry 35,000 people daily, that number is actually 15,000 less than the number of riders on the Sheppard Subway and it will cost more than Sheppard and have fewer stops than Sheppard.

It is possible that there will be no funding for any line as there is some degree of politics involved. If council members vote against the subway they will be punished politically, but without funding and Metrolinx out of the game there is a possibility that nothing will get built and Toronto City Council will be on the hook for the 85 billion dollars in sunk cost. Its sad for the people of Scarborough because of politics they will be stuck with the same beat up rapid transit line or no line if it is unable to be upgraded. They are a victim of politics.
