Metrolinx Contracts for Eglinton Line to Big: Engineers

Metrolinx is currently in the process of awarding the mega contracts for the procurement of LRT/Subway Stops as well as the Storage Facilities of the New Eglinton Crosstown LRT. The contract say local builders are to massive for them to effectively bid on in addition to taking on massive risk in the event they do not cover their numbers in such a way to mitigate the damage of going over budget.

Some of the firms which Metrolinx has in mind for bids on the Eglinton Line are SNC Lavalin, Ellis Don, Aecon and a couple foreign multinationals that may also compete. The cost some say for pursuing a big on a project as large as the Eglinton LRT is around $20 million and you still may not get any part of the contract.

Small Engineering Firms say that if the project was broken down into smaller segments it would be easier for smaller and local companies to make competitive bids without the heavy risk associated with the larger procurements.

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT will travel from the west end of the city at Jane all the way East to Kennedy Subway Station.
