A pedestrian crossing at Cousins Drive in Aurora may be blocked by Metrolinx, because there are some safety precaustions at the crossing. The council of the town of Aura, turned down the crossing because it would have included a sidewalk on the south side of Cousins, including flashing lights and bells.
The intersection which is used by pedestrians and would have been on the Industrial Parkway and could provide access to the tracks at Sheppard and the Bush Conservation Area. The reason for the rejection was due to a lack of funds and lack of economic priority for pedestrians which are pretty sporadic in the sprawling auto-centric suburb of Toronto. The cost of the crossing would have been $440,000 dollars, and Metrolinx, which is the head corporation for GO Transit which runs commuter trains from Toronto's Union Station into Aurora wanted the town to pick up the cost of the construction. In addition, Metrolinx paymasters required the town of Aurora to obtain some 10 million dollars in liability funding for insurance on the crossing.
Metrolinx is expected to fence the tracks
